Best Essay Topics for IELTS 2017

Story from: Digital Street

Almost every test-taker dreams of knowing in advance what test questions will be, and IELTS task number 2 is not an exception. The test changes some of its writing topics every year; otherwise, people would already have an exhaustive list.

Some topics, however, are used more often than the others – according to our observations. Moreover, while preparing to write an essay on one topic, you will automatically prepare for writing on a few others. These are the best ones for preparation, as they will save you time and effort.

Over the years, test-takers have been reporting on the topics they were assigned during the test. For you (and for clients we have here at https://snappyessays.com), we have selected those that you can use for fast and comprehensive preparation.

  • Is art important for modern society? Should governments spend money on its development and engagement of people in art-related activities? Should they support artists that can’t survive on their own?
  • The difference in salaries – should it be controlled on the governmental level?
  • Small and large businesses. Can local SMB’s compete with giants who have enormous budgets? Should they be supported? Will a decline in their activity lead to the decline of local communities?
  • The problems of recruiting. Hiring young women and paying for their maternity leaves. Hiring people whose single motivation is money.
  • The correlation between price and quality. Artificial overpricing as a way of attracting more customers.
  • The correlation between academic achievements and life success. Does one stipulate the other?
  • The introduction of technology and its use by children from an early age. Long-distance electronic communication as a preferred means of communication.
  • An increase (or decrease) in crime rates, inmates released on probation, reasons and ways to control street crime.
  • What should be the main focus of governments in education?
  • Accessibility of education and modernizing curricula to reflect modern needs. Encouragement as a means of education.
  • The feasibility of governmental measures to protect wildlife.
  • Fuel prices as a way to protect ecology and air pollution with motor vehicles.
  • Global warming or deforestation – the right allocation of governmental funds.
  • The role of parents in raising a child and cultivating the right values. Working parents and passage of knowledge and values from generation to generation.
  • Overpopulation, a threat of famine, genetically modified products and obesity.
  • The role of government in people’s lives – to what extent should it be allowed? The right allocation of funds (defense or education?)
  • Free or paid healthcare? Prevention as the primary means to fight illnesses.
  • Renting or buying your home – living with a mortgage.
  • The necessity of learning foreign languages and the future of people who do that for a living.
  • Work and personal life balance. How much does the free time cost?
  • Media and its role and responsibilities in providing objective coverage.
  • A change in the main types of media with the beginning of the digital era.
  • Reading books from an early age as a way to succeed in life.
  • Paper books and e-books – the difference in feeling and meaning.

These can be considered “blanket” topics that will help you deal with similar ones. Get your facts and opinions straight on these ones, and you will have much less trouble writing about anything else that IELTS might have in store for you.
