GreensTalk covers results from the two bowling clubs in the Kowie
Kowie Bowls Banter
Report as submitted by Club Captain, Mike Tomlinson;
Tuesday we played our monthly sponsored SPAR competition with 5 rinks and John Hubbard and his team of 4’s Dot Rohrs, Rob Walker and Rob Turner were in fine form to defeat Pieter Stegmann’s team by 9 points and 14 shot profit. The runner-up position was shared by Jackie Kriel’s team and Lee Botma’s team who won the respective games 8 points and 4 shot profit. In the Spar competition, there are only vouchers for the winning team.
On Thursday 13th 6 x teams arrived at our club for the bi-monthly Kenton vs Kowie [men] and the Bess Tweedie [ladies] competition. This was one of the closest competition days that we have had with the ladies each winning one game and Kenton Ladies having a positive 2 shot difference. In the men’s comp, each club won 2 games with Kenton having the positive shot difference of 1. The overall position after 2 rounds of the comp is Kenton Men 10 points and positive shot profit of 20 with Kowie on 6 points and in the Bess Tweedie comp both clubs on 4 points and the Kenton Ladies with a positive shot profit of 6. There was also an overflow of two rinks of tabs bowlers wherein a pairs game Dave Tyrrell and Roger Purdon peeled their game on 21 each and in a 4’s game Bob Ford defeated Jackie Kriel.
On Saturday in suspect weather, we had a small turn out with just 3 rinks playing our Snowball competition where the result does not count for the winner. The ends were drawn and the score of 3 was drawn and Lee Botma’s pairs game was the only team to have a score of 3 so he and Roger Purdon shared the kitty. Well done guys easy money.
On Easter Monday we had a fun day where we played a 100 competition and we had a lovely turn out considering the overnight weather. We had a turn out of 31 bowlers which included some first timers. Teams were selected and headed out to play 10 ends with bowl 1 scoring 4 points, bowl 2 – 3 points, bowl 3 – 2points and bowls 4 – 1 point with a total of 10 points per end. The first game played, the winners moved up one rink and played against the losers for another 10 end game. Well, today bowls were the biggest winner of the day with only one team winning both their games and that was Lee Botma’s 4’s team of Don Munro, Basil Clarke and Margie Thomas. The weather had turned fine and everyone enjoyed their time on the green then we got to the serious part of the day lighting the fire and some extras arrived to keep the fire burning where we partook of a few beverages as we burned a small amount of meat. I love public holidays.
