More peacekeepers killed in Mali anarchy

BAMAKO, (CAJ News) –  THE United Nations (UN) is outraged at the killing of three peacekeepers in Mali.
The peacekeepers from Bangladesh, who are part of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), died after militants attacked their convoy in the northeastern Gao region.
Five other peacekeepers were seriously injured.
UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, condemned Sundays’ attack.
He expressed his condolences to the government of Bangladesh and the bereaved families.
“He wishes swift recovery to the injured,” Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres’ spokesperson, said.
Dujarric said his principal reaffirmed the UN determination to support efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and security in the Western African country.
“He urges the government and the signatory armed groups to expedite the implementation of the peace agreement, so as to isolate the terrorist groups and other entities bent on undermining the peace and reconciliation process.”
The Security Council established MINUSMA in 2013 to support political processes and carry out a number of security-related tasks in the West African country of 18 million people.
Attacks on MINUSMA are widespread.
Last month, gunmen attacked the peacekeeping force’s headquarters in the northern Timbuktu killing at least seven people .
In June, three UN peacekeepers were killed in  Kidal.
