Dear husband, the world is not ending…You just have a blocked nose!

Story from: You, Baby and I

We had a serious case of man-down recently in the Vijendranath household.

It was so bad that we had to call in a tiny “professional” to take care of the situation before it got out of control.

What is Man-Down, you may ask?

Well… it’s when your husband has a blocked nose and thinks something really bad is going to happen to him.

If you haven’t experienced this yet, you should consider yourself blessed!

Men are known to be big babies, generally… but when something like this occurs, they take it to another level.

I’m not being sexist here, I’m just being real. 😉

Taking care of a man-down patient is worse than having a sick toddler at home.

This is the perfect opportunity for you to get his mother in to take care of him so you can take a break and enjoy a cup of tea without having to get up every 5 minutes.

My drama started during the early hours of the morning when my husband tossed and turned in bed trying to find a comfortable position to breathe. All I heard was sniffles and him trying to figure out which nostril was better to breathe through.

Mind you, I’ve been struggling with the sniffles for the past week and I haven’t complained a bit even though I am having sleepless nights with a newborn baby and have 2 small minions running around in the house draining my energy.

When I became a mom, things changed. Not only do I catch a whole lot more of the nasty viruses now (thanks to my daughter who brings them home from school), I also have to endure them whilst looking after everyone else’s needs at home. The days of wrapping myself in a blanket and hiding from the world (as I drink lemon and honey hot water) are long gone.

I find it hilarious when my husband and I feel the need to justify to each other who is sicker or more tired after a looong week at work.

Men are known for exaggerating and self-diagnosing themselves when it comes to a cold. In fact, my husband’s best friend during man-down was Dr. Google.

When he woke up and realized that his world was falling apart. He moaned ooh-aah seeking my attention for help.

I knew from that moment onwards my day was going to be long and hilarious. I giggled while walking towards the bedroom with a balm to massage him.

Reality kicked in when he couldn’t smell his cup of morning coffee or the delicious healthy breakfast I had to prepare while he curled up on the sofa with a blanket and a box of tissues.

For a minute there, I thought I needed to call the plumber in to fix more than our blocked pipe in the bathroom.

Lazyitis kicked in for my dearest hubby – I was forced to feed him a hot bowl of soup, pass him the TV remote and cuddle with him for the rest of the day until my little madam came home and finally diagnosed her father with a serious case of blocked nose.

Men don’t like to suffer alone, they need their wives to pamper them and say, “get well soon babe” even though it’s nothing serious.

How do you deal with your “man-down”? 😉
