On Tuesday, a turnout of in excess of 40 players with 2 x 10-pointers being scored and it was Michael van der Sandt’s team of Laurie May and Neville Westcott who was declared the winner of the Megabucks in beating Siegie Rohrs’s team with a large shot profit. Runner-up on the day was Keith Kolesky who defeated Jackie Kriel’s team, in a tight game because the skins were won by just 1 shot each and the 3rd skin by just 3 shots.

On Thursday, Kowie hosted the coastal clubs for the final round of the Horace & Peg Purdon competitions. In the men’s division, Kowie had a very good day winning both games to place us in 1st place on 14 points with a 40 shot profit and Port Alfred won one game to place them in 2nd position with 8 points and Kenton in 3rd place. In the ladies division, the Kenton ladies won both their games to top the points log with 13 points and 53 shot profit with Port Alfred in 2nd place on 10 points and 3rd place to Kowie.

On Friday afternoon, the new club competition the “Steak Night Trips” was played with 12 teams on a personal selection basis and the grading of the three players must not exceed 21. Two 9-end games were played. The winner based on points scored from the two games plus shot profit was Stan Richter’s team who won both their games. Then came the skins’ winners with R30 per end available and when two or more teams were on the same score it was carried over to the next end. This was great fun and some teams’ winnings paid for their day of bowls. The steak evening and the monthly draw followed and Miss Lucy [Nel] was on hand to be presented with the prize money when her number was drawn. The steak evening was very well supported this month with many friends of the club attending.

On Saturday, the Ladies Open Singles competition was played with Jackie Kriel crowned the Club Ladies Champion and Delene Deenik the runner-up in the comp.

The Guido’s competition was played during Tabs bowls in the afternoon. Jacques Krige’s team of Dave Thomas and Claire Bell were the form team to defeat Mike Tomlinson’s trip by 2 points and a shot profit of 16 and Rob Owsley’s trip that defeated Gavin Deenik’s trip to take the runner-up position while the other 2 games had small shot profits.

Duties for week 16 – 22nd Oct:
Greens: Roll – Ronnie Smith, Mark: Robert Sandilands & Laurie May, Tabs: Lynn Kolesky and Bar: Laurie & Linda May.
