Why Were McDonald’s And Nando’s Staff Killed By Police?
Story from: 2oceansvibe.com
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is angry. Like, really angry.
About three months ago, within a week, two separate incidents saw the accidental shooting of two McDonald’s and one Nando’s employee. Now, it is up to the Ipid to confirm who is accountable and why.
But the officers involved are yet to give statements. They had asked early on to give these through legal representation, but nothing has happened. Spokesperson for Ipid, Robbie Raburabu is unimpressed with the delay:
In my view, the police should not have delayed the case. We’re having problems with a certain unit of the police.
They keep postponing and it’s been over three months now since the incident.
It cannot be delayed. If they weren’t doing their work [during the incident], how can they delay us in doing our work?
The delay, Raburabu continued, was due to the officers claiming that if they testified, their lives would be put at risk as they are undercover – but someone needs to be held accountable no matter, he claimed.
If the police wanted this [resolved] quicker they would have co-operated.
They go out and protect the country, so they have to be accountable to the employer.
We not saying we blame them for what happened. We saying they did their work, but they must still be held accountable and not let others take the fall.
The bottom line is it must be investigated. We just want to know who is delaying it.
Western Cape police have declined to comment and honestly, that whole undercover excuse is a pretty lame one.
