Central Africa refugee crisis spiraling beyond borders

KINSHASA, (CAJ News) – THE crisis-torn Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is experiencing a surge of refugees from equally-troubled Central African Republic (CAR), which has degenerated into lawlessness.The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported yesterday (Wednesday) some 2 750 refugees from CAR had sought refuge in the neighbouring country following a wave of violence in the city of Bangassou, where clashes between armed extremist group have left scores dead, including international peacekeepers. UNHCR said the refugees had arrived the provinces of Bas-Uele and Nord-Ubangi,bordering DRC.“The refugees arrive in difficult conditions and with little personal effects,” a UNCHR spokesperson said. “Among them there are wounded.”In Ndu, in the province of Bas-Uele, they are housed in host families and schools.In Yakoma, North-Ubangi, some of the refugees are living in public buildings.A team of UNHCR and other humanitarian actors is currently in the area of entry in the province of Bas-Uélé to monitor the situation of these refugees. A second team will be sent to Yakoma in the coming days. UNHCR said it was monitoring the situation closely following the outbreak of Ebola in recent days.Ironically, thousands of civilians have fled the severe militancy in the DRC and sought refuge in neighbouring Angola.More than 20 000 Congolese have crossed the border to the Southern African
