LILOLNGWE, (CAJ News) – THE issue of gays and lesbians has reared its ugly head again in Malawi where a senior politician has called for the butchering of these members of the community instead of arresting them.
Ken Msonda, a former spokesman for Malawi opposition party, People’s Party (PP), has appeared in the High Court where he is facing allegations of inciting violence against homosexuals.
He is in trouble for a statement posted on his social media pages.
“The best way to deal with this problem is to KILL them! It is pathetic to see our media houses parading these dogs on TV and newspapers hiding behind human rights — human rights my foot! The devil has no rights,” posted Msonda.”
He complained arresting them would not address the “problem” because “sooner or later they are being released on bail.”
The Centre of Human Rights and Rehabilitation and the Centre for the Development of People have sought his prosecution.
However, the Director of Public Prosecution, Mary Kachale, opposed the trial of Msonda and discharged the politician.
Nonetheless, the court wants the case reviewed so that Msonda faces the charges for his homophobic and hate speech.
Judiciary spokesman Mlenga Mvula confirmed the case will at a later date come under review.
Homosexuality is outlawed in the Southern African country.
Culprits can be sentenced up to 14 years in prison, with hard labour.
