Is The Avocado Craze About To End?

Story from: 2oceansvibe.com

Let’s bloody hope so.

Sure, avocado is a delight with every and anything, from holding the title as nature’s spread to guac-ing it up for a little side dish.

But when avocados hit the height of food popularity last year, inspiring thought pieces and recipes for every meal of every day of every month, they just got a little tiresome.

[Not as tiresome as pineapples, though. Honestly.]

Now one restaurant in London has had enough, and so has banned the green pear-shaped fruit from their all-day breakfast and lunch menu.

Firedog, an Aegean-inspired restaurant who are kings of the delectable mezze platter, was asked by The Independent about the decision and Executive Chef George Notley answered:

The ever-evolving cooking methods used in Aegean street food inspired us to create a colourful menu rich in interesting flavours and fresh ingredients. All without an avocado in sight.

Our mission is to reinvigorate the morning dining scene in London, which has done avocado to death, and we’re frankly bored of seeing it on every breakfast and brunch menu.

Rather than avo, the restaurant will be incorporating other foods such as “fennel and pomegranate, in dishes like Grilled Halloumi & Fennel Roasted Beetroot and Pan-Fried Sea Bass with Shaved Fennel, Pickled Cucumber, Pomegranate, Dill & Green Chilli,” explains Food and Wine.

Not only is the increasingly high-demand of avocados causing massive deforestation in Mexico (the biggest avo exporters to the USA), but avocados use a large amount of water and (surprise) much of the world is experiencing increasing periods of drought.

And there you have it. After all, too much of a good thing can quickly turn sour.
